Coffeechug AI Learning and Thinking 11.15.24
Good afternoon! Happy Fri-YAY! Here is my recap of learning and updates on AI tools and features changing the education game. Here’s what you need to know about AI’s latest capabilities for students, teachers, and creators.
1. Google’s “Learn About” AI Companion
Google has launched Learn About, an AI-powered tool that helps users explore new topics in a conversational, adaptive format. US-based users can type prompts like “What causes the northern lights?” or upload and draw on images to guide the AI’s responses. It’s a perfect addition for students curious to dig into complex subjects independently. Explore Google’s Learn About. This is still beta, but give it a try and let me know what you think.
2. Writing with ChatGPT: OpenAI’s Student Guide
OpenAI’s new guide for students using ChatGPT highlights using the tool responsibly to improve critical thinking and writing skills. Key tips include organizing ideas, creating outlines, and using ChatGPT to prompt deeper questions or challenges to arguments. Transparency in acknowledging AI contributions is also a must for academic integrity. Read OpenAI’s Student Writing Guide.
I have recently been adding statements to documents and slides when I use AI to be transparent and it always creates conversation from educators asking why I have these statements. Interesting times to share so freely.
3. ChatGPT and Coding: Now Compatible with Developer Tools
ChatGPT's new integration with developer platforms like VS Code and Terminal means users can work seamlessly within coding environments without copy-pasting. This functionality, plus an anticipated update called Operator, helps streamline project-based learning in tech-focused classrooms by allowing real-time AI support. The ChatGPT desktop app is now available for Windows users as well. Learn more.
4. DeepL Voice: Real-Time Translation for Multilingual Classrooms
DeepL’s voice and video translation features allow multilingual students to engage with content in real-time, helping bridge language barriers in diverse classrooms. DeepL allows for immediate translations, making lessons more inclusive and accessible. Read more on DeepL Voice.
5. Personalized AI Image Generators with Krea
With Krea’s new feature, users can train AI image generators using their own custom images, creating a unique tool for art and content creation. This functionality provides users with an avenue for experimenting with digital art, from personal photo sets to styled design projects. Check out Krea X thread on details to the update.
6. Real-Time ChatGPT Search Tool
If you haven’t tried ChatGPT's new Search feature, you’re in for a treat. This tool lets users access real-time information, which changes my thinking when it comes to using ChatGPT for research and projects on current topics. It’s a powerful addition for users who need the latest data and news. Discover ChatGPT Search.
That’s it for today! Stay curious and keep exploring the power of AI in the classroom. See you next time!
And let me know what you are learning and experimenting with in the world of AI.
And new podcast season starts next week for my platform
I finished up a 3 hour 3 part AI workshop for a local college. I presented a 3 hour workshop with another college last week. And provided a short 20 minute presentation to district leaders on things to consider about AI. If you are interested in any of this let me know. I can also shared key ideas in upcoming newsletter if interested.
